GENERAL INFORMATION:

There is no U.S. Embassy in NJ. The closest one is in Shanghai, which is a 3 Hour train ride away.

Two post offices are within walking distance. For package pick-up there is an international office very close to campus.

If you show up with the following few key items you'll do fine in NJ:

Money and Credit Cards ( American Express and Visa) (about one thousand US $ for household electronics, furnishings, etc.)

clothes

deodorant

Our other motto is "if it's not in the store today, wait a week." NJ is growing rapidly and many western products are becoming available in country. My suggestion is to bring a small supply of the things you like (i.e. toiletries, food, other dong xi) to help ease your transition to a new culture and buy the remainder of your supplies here.
